Power Africa

Launched in 2013, Power Africa is a U.S. Government- led partnership that leverages the resources of 12 U.S. Government agencies with over 150 private and public sector partners, to achieve two ambitious targets to expand access to power across sub-Saharan Africa by 2030: to increase installed generation capacity by 30,000 megawatts, and to create 60 million new connections. The Power Africa model focuses on practical solutions, and is uniquely positioned to drive results, because the partnerships Power Africa has forged combine three important elements: deep knowledge of the power sector, a private sector-led engagement approach, and experience working with governments and civil society to improve policies and sector governance. As of December 2017, Power Africa has helped 84 projects comprising over 7, 300 megawatts reach financial close, and has helped add over 10 million connections.
